Hmm, they're mostly about memorizing the levels, and then being able to avoid falling to your death to beat your own score.
First time i went through Crisis City for example, it took me 8 lives and a big score of almost 7 minutes. Now I can run through it in about 3 minutes without losing a life =)
Falling in pits has always been a part of Sonic, even back in the Genesis era, and in Adventure games too. And you're telling me you didn't SQUUEEEEEE at Speed Highway, City Escape and Seaside Hill? PFFFFTT
The only level that really really sucked was both Classic and Modern Planet Wisp. Holy crap, that level...

I played the first Sonic game ever released on the Master System and still have all the Sonic games on the genesis. Yes the later levels had some challenging jumping puzzles, but usually they just had lava below them and not a bottomless pit. Sonic Rush got it exactly right where you could finish the game without having to master all the little nuances of it, but to get the epic high scores you needed to master it on all levels (And you felt awesome when you did it). Using all the special powers helped you get through the level faster and cooler, not just finish it without dying.
These levels it feels like... Run along this very narrow path, don't go too fast cause it's a bottomless pit on both sides. Suddenly LOTS OF SPRING! You go flying all over the place and see eye candy before suddenly the game goes PRESS A BUTTON RIGHT NOW! Then you don't press the button and fall off the level and die. Green Hill and Chemical Plant were good cause if you screwed up you just slowed down or had to take a longer path. Mastering those levels meant going through them really fast and looking cool. The later levels you have to master and memorise to just finish them.
When I am running along a path really fast I know there's going to be one of three things at the end. 1) A bad guy/some spikes that I have to jump over. 2) A spring that will launch me to the next platform. 3) Some random gimmick that requires me to press a button to take advantage of it.
The problem is I have no idea what it will be until I have already run into it. If I try to jump over some spikes pre-emptively, I might jump over a spring I was supposed to use and fall off the level. If I boost along to kill a badguy that may be ahead chances are I'll go so fast I'll just run off the level or miss something important. So I simply find myself running full speed and waiting to get owned by whatever challenge is ahead, then dealing with it. I don't feel like I have a fair chance at beating what is ahead of me unless I know about it in advance. That screams of terrible level design if the only way to make it hard is to blindside you repeatedly.
Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Sonic & Knuckles never had to do that to you.

I havent played a new game for a while, i have been a bit... ``disconected´´ from gaming, have played Borderlands a bit after knowing of the sequel, and im curious about magicka but it seems the kind of game you enjoy with a friend or family but no one i know like that would want or know how to play.
Besides its one of those downloadable games and i havent learned to deal with that, and i dont want to deal with stuff like steam too.
Oh i remember other thing, have anyone heard of dwarf fortress? sounds like a interesting simulation game but holy shit, i dont even know how people learned to play that game on the first place, dont know how the controls work and the graphics... lets say that those who play that game with its vainilla graphics probably can read the matrix code.
I feel that after being absent from the forums for too long theres some stuff to catch up to.

Okay. Since coming back online in a regular way I've come across a problem. heh. I don't know what MMO's people are actively playing. The boards for the games listed in constructs are pretty much inactive, which is natural all things considered, so I don't know where people are. I decided to test my wifi connection by checking out DC universe. Mostly because I was curious to see what MxO died a long slow death for and it was Freemium. I admit I'm having fun. It's an alright game now that a lot of bug issues are worked out. I don't die from lag death very often so my connection seems okay for mmo'ing. As long as I don't supersonic fly down the streets. hehe. I think I'm going to keep that one. Not sure I'll give them money but they owe still owe me for allowing MxO to bleed out in the street. My villian is Purple Nebula. I recreated a character from CoH that I liked. as a test, and as always that first character grew on me. lol. It's how I ended up with the way Sky looked in MxO. (I failed to read the "YOU CAN'T CHANGE YOUR CHARACTER" notice. lol. Ah well. It worked out in the end.) I've been using the other freemium slot as a hero for testing different powers and stuff. Right now I have a guy named WiFi Kid in that slot. Kinda like that name so I'll keep using it. Just might look different from day to day. So.. anyone active on other mmo's that I can access without laying out cash? *grins*

Cool. I've been downloading the game client for Star Wars: TOR since yesterday before I crashed. heh. Sleep dl'ing rules. Not sure how much longer it will take.
I'll check out APB while that dl's.
I'm rockin a laptop right now. Not sure it can handle anything really high end graphic wise. It's a good laptop mind you.. but still. Not a gaming machine. 6gb ram, dual amd e450 processors, Radeon hd 6320 vid card. So ... decent but not optimal. lol.
