Question:
Do Hostile and Mathalos pay an extra $100/month or is there just some newsletter that I'm not aware of. Three servers + five orgs...no way to tell when LE is online really. They are also on the LE mission team of half of these LE threads I've been looking at. I know it sounds like I'm complaining, but really I'm impressed. I say share the secret!
rarebit:
Don't know if all Liaisons send emails to their organisation of upcoming events but I know that some do. Hard way: So that's 2 accounts to get 5 characters per server (or get a friend to make characters) > Contact all liaisons > Get on their mailing list > Jack in every now and then to check email > Be at every Live Event. Easy way: Or make friends in each org on a server and ask them to forward the emails and to contact you when an event starts. That's the secret
Question:
Except that no liaisons knew about this event.
So, what exactly is your thoughts on how/why?
Do you think it would increase your chances of coming across a Live Event if you:
- Had multiple levelled alts on all servers?
- Had contacts in all orgs on all servers?
- Made educated guesses on what group/server might have the next event based on what events had happened in the past week?
- Had all LESIG characters in your Friends list, and kept a constant eye on it to tell which were logged in?
- Monitored my post count and my visible posts to see when my count goes up without a new post appearing, indicating that I'm posting on a private board and possibly arranging last minute event details?
- Constantly cycled through all areas of all servers, checking /who, keeping an eye out for unusual spawns, and checking for org locks on common event meeting areas such as clubs?
- Had multiple people doing the above and more all day long in a closely coordinated fashion until they detected the presence of a live event character?
Rarebit:
EDIT: Apparently people continue to miss the point of this post. The point is that people have been doing those things, it has enabled them to monopolize live events to a certain extent, and yes I realize this has become a problem. See my next post down.

Question:
But in your opinion, doesnt that hurt the overall intended effect of the Live Event? Especially when things are supposed to be private meetings, or the people who repeaditly show up dont offer anything other then being there.
Rarebit:
Yes. It's somewhat less troublesome for private meetings, because there will be other faces in the crowd aside from them, and in some cases I could keep them out if I really wanted to, org alts or no org alts.
It became obvious to me with the Silver event, though, that the "let players come across it" style of subtle live event is no longer feasible, because even though I took care to position myself within /who range of Camon Central, where I could see on my own /who list Syntaxians coming and going constantly, who would themselves be able to see "Silver Level 55 Weapon Maker" in their /who lists, and even though I left a level 50+ High Blooddrinker standing right outside the building Silver was in, facing the church next door, apparently nobody bothered to notice or investigate in the space of what I think was close to an hour before the usual group finally found me.
And yes, if it is the same small group of people involved in a large number of live events, that is in effect preventing live events from reaching other players--at least in events like this where I have to start the event once the story character is found. I had hoped for a while that the example of this group's success at tracking down events would inspire a generally heightened alertness about them, but apparently it has not.
So I'm not going to be able to do events like that any more. I'll either have to make them much more obvious so that they're found quickly by people going about their usual business on that server, or spend additional time finding and choosing some faction online who appears to be a good candidate for the event, then sending them a faction broadcast from their controller, or something like that, inviting/tipping them off to the event. I've done that before and it works quite well once I find the right faction, the trouble is that finding that faction can take quite some time (Mr. Black I think had to try, and wait for, three different factions to reach him when he had that meeting with Anome in Downtown, for instance). And it sacrifices the excitement of discovery for the people involved...but I suppose certain sacrifices will have to be made.
Edit:
I've left out the names of the people asking the questions. That is not as important as the question being asked.
