A travesty.
After all our imprecations, all the sufferings through their puppet Cryptos's "lie back and enjoy it" mouth-drippings, all our efforts at pressure and sabotage and persuasion...
...the Machines grant us a shrine to The One.
But not just any shrine. A shabby, ugly, forlorn, beer-and-urine stench-filled pit-in-the-ground where petty commerce profanes His presence (remind me now what Jesus did to the moneychangers in the Temple?) and trash covers the floor while smoke from a burning barrel stings the eyes.
I grant you, it's beautiful to see anyway. Never have I felt the presence of the sacred so much. Except, perhaps, that time when Neo actually contacted me through my computer.
It's almost as if it's actually Him.
But this location. It's spittle in our faces. It's a slap. It's daring us to, to...do something we really ought not do.
I didn't think I could hate the Machines. Neo taught us that they are as morally neutral as a swarm of bees or a growth of lichen. They grow, they survive, by accommodating their world, by supporting us with only those checks and restraints that are necessary.
But why is this necessary? They say it must be a place where bluepills will not stumble across it. This makes sense.
But surely there are alternatives better than this. Why not, say, be in the penthouse of the MetaCortex building, which at least has some historical resonance? Why not in a construct accessible through the door atop Ascension? Why not, at least, somewhere clean and conducive to serenity?
I can only conclude the Machines want us angry, for some reason.

Subject: Matrix Field Report
I am returning to this method of communication because my last report was apparently not received. It reported Anome's death and the mopping up of Unlimit.
In the intervening time additional data points, and conclusions, are available.
Apparently the kill-code bullets which the Assassin shot were used by Agents. They obtained a few and saved them, it seems.
One rumor: They actually dug them out of Morpheus's RSI and fitted them into new cartridges.
Why these codes cannot be duplicated, we do not know. Obviously, if duplication became widely feasible, the results would be disastrous.
Another possibility: The Machines alone can duplicate the kill-code bullets, but restrain themselves from their use except in the most urgent circumstances.
This apparent confidence would indicate the Machines have an extent of control over Redpills and the Matrix greater than is generally assumed.
For all our fractiousness and anarchy, we may still be pawns on their chessboard.
Rumors abound about the missing Unlimit members: They died out of sight. They are trapped in the Matrix in immobile forms, due to aftereffects of the elixirs. They have new RSIs and new identities.
The second rumor has colorful details. An Unlimit man has become a corpulent mass that fills a room to its walls and ceiling; but he cannot, for some reason, die. Some Unlimit members have been scaled down and are trapped in sewers or within walls. An Unlimit woman has turned to iron.
None of these can be confirmed and must be considered fanciful.
I await my next orders. I presume the kidnapping will generate tasks I must attend to.
Respectfully,

Ciao, Rosapillore.
First, congratulations on bringing down Unlimit. Again, a threat to the Matrix has been averted, and many lives have been saved, as well as the smooth continuity of higher civilization.
We are currently formulating policy in regard to the child Exile. If, as is said to be true, her sunshine restores the code loss in Exile RSIs, her absence may have the benefit of cleaning the Matrix of parasites once and for all.
Countermeasures are possible by Exiles, however, which could be disruptive.
Technicians are monitoring batteries for output, as well. It is believed bodies produce .425 BTU more when Sati's sunshine makes them think they're warm. This benefit obviously should be preserved, if true. No consistent measurements without interfering factors are available.
My warriors, stay alert. You may be needed soon.
Pax Vobiscum.
