((OOC))
Hello
I noticed in going over the forums for an upcoming spring-cleaning that there isn't much in the way of explaining The True Believers from an RP stance. Hopefully this will help in giving you tools to include the Believers and the in-game history of the fleet as part of your RP if you so choose.
First I'll lay down some history. What I can remember. It was a while back. heh.
I'll start at the actual beginning. The Founding members were all originally part of a fleet called The Vital Element on the Linenoise server (pre-merge). Before I joined them they already had a pretty good rep. It was a Beta Fleet if I'm not mistaken. Then not long after I joined MxO (shortly after release. I had a pre-order but because I wasn't in the states I had to wait a almost a month. When I found that out I almost flipped my lid. lol. Didn't get the pre-order stuff either. I'm not bitter. No .. really.. lol) I met SephirothX and joined The Vital Element with my ship the Hvct Format C and my first mate ShadowofPain. The leader of that fleet stopped showing up suddenly about the same time. I think I met him once. Cut to weeks later. Events in the Matrix are ramping up and things are hectic. There was a divide on the direction to go in. I'm going to leave it at that. 'Nuff said. Seriously.
After the very last meeting of The Vital Element a bunch of us decided to form our own fleet. We couldn't pick a name. The debate went on for more than half an hour. Finally Sephiroth said screw it, started a fleet called The True Believers (which nobody had suggested. hehe) and invited the rest of us in. (I was seriously stuck on using the word pheonix somehow.)
Our focus was quickly determined to be Morpheus more so than Zion. A lot easier than the name picking. heh. We were all in agreement on that. It was easy. We ran with that base rp-line in-game for the most part until Morpheus was "killed". Just before the 'death of Morpheus' Halcyon got a message from Morpehus in-game saying that he was going away for a while but he would be back. We all thought that was odd. After the 'death' we went with the whole protecting zion as morpheus' last orders to us. I'm not entirely certain who came up with that. Doesn't matter. We ran with that for the most part.
Frankly, each ship was it's own entitiy. The leadership of the fleet role was more of an admin thing than giving any orders. When I was faced with actual decisions I'd just ask everyone what they thought and went the most popular way. I'm not sure I ever actually gave any orders outside of RP stuff. lol. We all agreed that 2fist should lead originally. Except 2fist. heh. Eventually real life must take precedence and he dropped the keys to the fleet in my lap.
I think in revenge.
Okay. A lot of stuff happened in MxO. I can't remember all of it and I'm not going to try. Here are some high points off the top of my head.
Our members have run numerous missions with Morpheus, Niobe, Ghost, and other Zion Dev-run characters throughout the history of MxO.
In a private meeting with Shimada(?) TTB was invited to join the Kid. We declined respectfully. It was memorable for me. (Camon church? Mara Church? It was a church. That I know.)
Discovered the Cypherites plotting with Fygment (wicked rper) long before they made the public appearance. Way to go Halcyon. I still remember that call to come meet him near Mara C and the discovery of Germaskeerd and Enmascardo. In the Oracles courtyard of all places. Man.. the audacity.... heh
(Before the server merge) Live event Win for TTB: Busted Toorima aka Veil for the murder of Vashou. That was a tense event. I was hanging out with Omega Syndicate in an information sharing thing and got the call from 2fist that eventually led to him figuring out the riddle which then led me to stumbling onto the evidence. omg. that was a huge one for us. I was literally there all freaking day trying to figure that out. Almost gave myself an anurism. lol.
Formed an alliance with The Pride. When I got the call from Catzi she was all mysterious. heh. We chatted at her favorite fountain and talked for a long time. It was fun just chilling and not killing. Of course we (TTB) agreed even though we didn't have anywhere near the in-game resourses or population The Pride had. None of us in TTB were really into the grinding of missions at what not.. But we could offer other services and our loyalty. Personally speaking, if I got a call from the Pride i'd drop what I'm doing and go help. even if it was just PvP/rpPvP fun at a remote Hardline. I never regretted the alliance. Big moment for TTB.
Ran missions with Merovingian LET(Live Event Team), and Machine LET. Kinda rare but it did happen occasionally. Usually late late at night during low population moments.
Hmm. What else. I don't know. Lots of stuff happened. But we were pretty active in live events and stuff. I can't count how many times MxO-Skyscream got groped by the merovingian. Had fun trying to annoy agent pace. But what really are big moments in a fleets history? I've covered some big events. Kinda gives you an idea of where we were as a fleet. At least in-game.
Out of Game stuff
------------------------
Now on to some general organization RP stuff.
Zion: The True Believers, while tolerated, are not popular among the upper eschelons of Zion Command. The Believers never made any secret that they do not take orders from Zion. They only follow the orders of Morpheus. The last orders they got from Morpheus were to "Guard the gates" of Zion which they have done. At great cost occasionally. While the Believers have always had the respect of people like Niobe they are far too insubordinate and secretive to be trusted by Zion command. Among the crowd of the masses in Zion they have a lot of respect and occasional hero worship kinda stuff from the folks that pretty much worshipped Neo. (which the believers discouraged. Neo was the Hero. They were just soldiers).
Merovingian: They have generally peacefull and occasionally friendly relations with the Merovingian. Only once did the Believers call for his blood. It was quickly determined that the Merovingian was played by The Assassin and the Believers assisted in removing the Assassin from the equation of the Matrix before he destroyed it (and thus the Merovingian). This would have ended the Truce right then and there between man and machine in the opinion of the Believers and therefore threatened the safetey of Zion. Assistance from the merovingian in elminating the Assassin removed him from the Believers "Kill on Sight" list so to speak. It's complicated. Let's just say that opinion varies greatly on the subject of the merovingian throughout the fleet but for the most part it's a "don't annoy us and we won't annoy you" attitude.
The Machine. The True Believers believe in the Truce. They have proven that to the machine numerous times. The one thing the Machine leaders are aware of about the Believers, on the rare occasion they pay any attention at all to them, is that they are dedicated to protecting Zion and therefore the Truce of Neo. Beyond that. Not exactly friendly relations. The Believers know that certain elements within the Machine as a whole are behind the Cypherites. They just don't know who or what. In addition the Believers thwarted Machine plans many times which did not make them any friends at all. Occasionally the Believers would work with Machine but it was rare. Mutual good kind of thing. The Believers did have the rep among Machine crews that they are not a fleet you really want to provoke on purpose.
E.P.N. : The Believers have more in common with EPN than Zionites. Except for one thing. EPN abandoned Zion and endangered the truce. The Believers will never abandon Zion unless Morpheus himself appears and tells them it's time to bug out. They worked with EPN many times and were even invited to EPN meetings in the early days of that organization. Probably in the hopes we would join. Can't say we agreed with the crowd often in those meetings. Eventually we were no longer welcome at EPN meetings and shut out communication-wise on EPN business. (natural progression. It was expected by us OOC. heh) Relations with EPN are very friendly, to the point of almost brotherhood with some EPN crews, the Believers are NOT allied with EPN in any way. They view them as a threat to the truce. However, with that said, many EPN crews and Believer crews had stood shoulder to shoulder many many times in battle before EPN started. Those are not bonds that die easy. The Believers will not out-right attack EPN except in self defense.
Cypherites: The Believers have to be one of the biggest pains in the ass the Cypherites could ever run in to. Throughout the entire history of the Cypherites the Believers have been all over them. Like a fly on molasses. heh. Time and time again there was one believer or another getting into the middle of thier plans and wrecking them. They helped Niobe kill Germaskeerd(?) or maybe Enmascardo(?) can't remember. lol. I'd have to look it up. They alerted the Zion community to the threat of Cypherites before the Cyphs blew up the hoverbarge (can't remember the name). The Believers aided Ghost in recovering one of Niobes crew from them. Mention the Believers to a Cypherite Vet and you'll see the glint of hatred in their eyes no matter how good thier poker face is. The Believers have no use for Cypherites and will go out of thier way to make life difficult from them any way they can. They even consider the name of the organization an insult. The Believers are perfectly aware of what Cypher tried to do. More than some. He murdered Morpheus's crew in the most cowardly way possible.
Okay. I need to get other things done in the real world now. I'll edit and post more later. Like details about Believer Base. Ya.. it's a corny name but I love it. heh.
Additional: Believer Base (sorry for the length of this bit I tried to keep it short.)
Believer Base was an idea I had to expand the RP outside of the Matrix simulation. It never really took off mostly because I didn't have time to properly set it all up. It is a good RP spot that is not Zion or New Zion though. A place where the Believers make the laws and decide whats right .. not Zion or the Machine. The premise was that we just showed up one day not terribly far (a days walk on foot) from the Pod Fields and camped out Hovercraft style as a test to see how serious the Machine was to the Truce. They checked us out top to bottom and we didn't stop them. No hostilies occured so we .. kinda .. stayed. Started building. Slowly at first. The Machine constantly has the area (a huge shallow valley) under surveilance but for the most part just watches.
This all occured around the time the Cypherites started appearing. It was my thought that being who we were that we would naturally keep it kinda secret (in roleplay) and we would probably recruit people from Zion who felt the same way we do. I finally landed on a vague number of a couple hundred staff or so. Scientists, doctors, techs, that kind of thing. It seems like a large number but compared to the number of people in zion to the number that re-entered the matrix it's actually quite reasonably in my opinion.
Quick Details:
There are six pads for Hovercraft to land on and a small flattened 'airfield' nearby for any overflow.
The Base is well armed. Very well armed. The numerous turrets that cover every inch of the visible surface and sky are all automated. In addition there are numerous electomagnetic railguns for taking down larger 'problems'.
((OOC unknown to anyone except a select few the automated systems are actually a copy of the exile program turned follower of Neo, Format, that runs the hovercraft Format C. The base can think and reason very well but does not let on who he is. Nothing to see here... just us automated systems...))
The facilities include laboratories, a well stocked medical bay, an armoury, a well stocked 'garage' which includes a state of the art machine shop for making whatever parts they need. There are enough quarters to house everyone comfortably and recreation areas. For RP purposes lets just say that anything else you might think a foward operating base might need is probably there as well.
The entire facility is prepared to bug out at a moments notice and plans are in place to achieve that efficiently.
Believer Base is a very professional operation. A bit too relaxed to be a military operation but deadly serious when required. Not some fly-by-night group of shacks cobbled together. Research is the biggest project handled at the base. Constant research. For example: One group of scientists are solely dedicated to going over all the science information taught to bluepills and verifiying the results. Another is researching alternate forms of energy. Another is looking into alternate forms of food production.
The main building materials are metal salvaged from tunnels and machine leftovers.
I always had a kind of Space1999 moonbase alpha kind of look in mind. A show from my youth. heh. Look it up. It is both silly and awesome.
**Just to be clear. The weapons and stuff are not for The Machine. The Machine would wipe out the base with little effort. It's for protection from more .. human .. problems.
If you have any questions at all about The True Believers (TTB) in regards to Roleplaying or information posted in here please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer them. All queries will be treated as Out Of Character and won't be treated as something that occured in RP.
Cheers!
((Additional: I'll try to compile a list of places Believers tended to hang out. We had a location for a base within the Matrix but it fell into dis-use. I'll post details soon))
