Skyscream stood in the center of Zion, staring at the people around her, and wondered why it is that what she was about to do had not been done before. She shrugged her backpack a little further up the one shoulder it hung on and peered about for a good place to do what she intended. The center of a catwalk, while busy, certainly was not place for her task. She had put up with too much lately. To many people pulling from all sides. She was tired of it. None would likely doubt her path after this day.
She walked off the catwalk, near the bottom of the city, and looked for the closest way down. The thought had appeared like magic in her mind. The perfect place. Ahead she could see some of the hardened fighters that were her crew. Loitering around and talking as they were likely to do since they docked a mere ten minutes ago.
"Come with me." Skyscream ordered as she stalked past at a brisk pace. She wasn't one to give orders lightly. Without a word they stepped in line. "Have any of you heard from 2fist?"
"No, he's still out there. So is SephirothX and Euphoria. None of the fleet have docked yet except us." Shadowofpain pointed at the heavy looking bag slung over his captains shoulder. "What's that?"
"A present for Zion." Skyscream didn't look like she had gift giving on her mind though. Her gaze was deadly serious. Zionites scattered as the small group marched past, and then began to follow. A few here. A few there. Curious as ever.
"What do you mean?" Shaira asked politely, the youngest of the small group.
"It's something that should have been done a long time ago." Skyscream pointed to a welder off to the side of the wide hallway they just turned into. "Somebody bring that."
Before long, Skyscream arrived at the doors to the council chamber. Her look was one of deadly intent. Behind her Shadowofpain wheeled the heavy welder up. It looked small in his hands. She shrugged the backpack off her shoulder and it made a metallic clanging sound as it hit the flooring. On each side of the main doors to the council chambers was a young, nervous looking, guard. Things had changed since before the truce.
"Stand aside." Skyscream glared at the young men. They both looked at each other, then at the angry looking woman before them, and then at the small crowd that were looking on in curiousity. The one on the right reached out after a moment of dead silence and slowly pushed the door open behind him with a nervous smile.
"Thank you." Skysceam nodded and picked up her backpack again with a grunt. "Let's go."
Skyscream stalked into the Council chambers with a determined look. The lights were dim. Only a single person was inside and she was cleaning the councils table. She looked up in surprise as people began to stream in but shrugged and watched with curiousity. Skyscream said nothing as she reached the floor between where the council sits and where the fleets sit. She smiled and waved to the young woman tidying up the place as the heavy backpack clanged against the floor again.
Skyscream kneeled down and opened the bag as Shadowofpain wheeled up the welder. Between her and the mass of the welder, whatever it was she brought was hidden from the small crowd. After the sound of cloth and other things tearing Skyscream grabbed the dark googles off the welder and held them up before her eyes as Shadowofpain started the device up. Light flashed blindingly as Skyscream immediately started to touch rod to metal. Most in the crowd looked at each other in confusion as the strange Captain of the Format C continued to weld behind the mass of her crew and the equipment. Before long, she stood up. The job done in less than a minute.
"Okay. It's done. Shadow, return this to it's owner. Take the crew with you." Skysceam stood back a little and looked down at what she had done. She smiled and looked at the small gathering looking on as Shadowofpain wheeled the welder out of the way to reveal Skyscreams act of defiance.
In the center of the floor the coverings had been torn up crudely and a large plaque had been elegantly welded into place on the metal flooring underneath.
Skyscream kneeled down in front of the plaque. It did not face towards where the fleets would sit. It was aimed at the Council. She reached into the cloth of her shirt at her neck, searching for a moment, to pull a small necklace out and lift the delicate thing over hair the colour of chestnuts to hold it at arms length before her. It was precious to her. She would never say why but she always carried it with her. The chain was made of steel. Hanging from it was a simple clear crystal, or perhaps plastic, that refracted the dim light into colours. Tears formed in her eyes as she placed the pretty thing carefully at the base of the plaque near the cooling, exoticly patterned, welds. With a quick motion Skyscream grabbed the square of floor coverings she had cut out and stood up as the crowd watched. She wiped her eyes with the back of her sleeve and cleared her throat.
"This is our gift to Neo. We will never forget." Skyscream smiled a little as she addressed the tiny crowd and began to walk back through the small gathering. The hardness in her eyes had been replaced with serenity. She had already passed the small clutch of Zionites when she suddenly turned around and smiled charmingly. "Be careful. It's still hot."
The crowd watched her leave.
