In short. The game is pretty damn fun and the customization is top notch.
There are some people complaining about the N-TEK gun being overpowered. It's really only a good gun for solo missions, whole teams of N-TEKers tend to get wrecked by teams that have a good variety of balance as the N-TEK is really a "jack of all trades master of none" weapon. Shotguns trump it at close range, snipers trump it at long range, accurate burst firing defeats it's spray and pray. In short, people who are good with a specific niche gun should know how to trump it.
People are giving the game crap about the whole "pay for hours not a subscription" system. This is really just a case of people not accepting a change to an old norm and are ignoring basic math. 10 bucks = a month of gameplay, meaning if you go this route you save 60 bucks a year since you aren't paying the 15 a month rate that's been the accepted norm for years.
In terms of the actual gameplay, there's a slight concern about it potentially getting stale. But I throw this concern out the window because this is a concern that can translate to every game in existence. MMO or not. I find the gameplay fun and rather refreshing to be quite honest. Yes, it's not a game changing MMO in any regard but the overall feel of the gameplay does enough for me to keep me entertained longer than any Grand Theft Auto game ever did (especially the failure that is 4).
In short, if you buy this off of Steam you get 50 free hours with it. 50. FIFTY. Thats well over twice as many hours as it takes to beat most modern day games, especially shooters, so for the 50 dollar price tag it's hard to say that you wont get your moneys worth out of it before ever having to spend another penny after that. There's also a growing group of old MxO-ers joining up and establishing the LaRocha server as the "RP" server for the game.
The key to enjoying APB is to treat the game like a third person shooter and not an MMO. Treat it as the GTA you've always wanted but never got.
